M&A activity in the food and beverage industry rebounded after a sluggish finish to 2023.
Food and beverage transaction volume opened the year similarly to the year prior.
- 94 M&A transactions were announced, with 74 of those transactions involving acquisitions made by active strategic players, while the remaining 20 involved a financial buyer.
- Packaged foods continue it’s run as the most acquisitive segment after strong performance in 2023. Retail and distribution and beverage businesses were the next two largest segments.
- Acquisitions of retail and distribution businesses picked up in Q1 as several distributors and retailers of grocery products were acquired in the quarter.
- Q1 2024 had 15 publicly disclosed transactions with 7 of those being below US$50M in value.
