M&A activity in the food and beverage industry experienced growth of 21% compared to Q1.
Food and beverage M&A volume continues to be on pace with the year prior.
- 114 M&A transactions were announced, with 92 of those transactions involving acquisitions made by active strategic players, while the remaining 22 involved a financial buyer.
- Acquisitions of beverage businesses overtook packaged foods as the most acquisitive segment in Q2 2024. Beverages, packaged foods, and retail segments accounted for 72% of total deal volume in the quarter.
- Bread, bakery, and snack food businesses experienced strong growth in the second quarter, increasing by 133% and 27% when compared to Q1/24 and Q2/23 respectively.
- Q2 2024 had 15 publicly disclosed transactions with 10 of those being below US$50M in value.
